Hekikai no Aion Chapter 37

Slightly later than I initially said at the last release… My bad. We worked hard, very much so!
Hekikai no Aion will be continued by just Overload scans now, but I’d still like to thank Elcausa from Fairy tail for his dedication towards the series, he has been working on Aion since chapter 20. We’ll hope to bring the series to an end… Will try to keep releasing a chapter every ~month, at it’s slowest. If you want faster releases, bring us another translator.
(Editors for things other than Aion would help too!)

It seems like we’re heading for the tragic end which I am hoping for. Hah.

Sendspace – No Mediafire link. Some funny guy reported Aion chapter 35 and Mediafire locked that chapter away. Because I didn’t want to risk losing the account with most of our chapters, I removed all Aion chapters uploaded there. You can grab older ones on IRC or look at me with puppy eyes and ask. Know that you can also find Aion chapters on fairy tail’s irc!
-Now I can’t confirm anything, but this might be, just might might be, a sign that another publisher is planning to pick on Aion after TokyoDROP went kaput. Who knows-

You can also grab this chapter on IRC with !Aion37

Enjoy. And now my wall of text.

As Kutsuzure Sensen readers will know (no, I don’t expect the reader base for Kutsuzure and Aion to overlap very much… Aion readers, give Kutsuzure sensen a try even though it’s a completely different kind of manga!) the chapter was about a Rusalka (kind of like a Russian Mermaid) and I talked about how the view on mermaids differed. Because mermaids are always related in an Aion release post, I’ll continue here. Now what I failed to mention was that one of the very first mermaid stories (at least that I know) actually sketched quite the negative view of mermaids. I’m talking about Homer’s “Sirens” in his Odyssey. These evil beauties would lure ships towards the cliffs with their enchanting songs. Something which very well connects to this would be Heinrich Heine’s “Lorelei” (German kind of Mermaid), a charming poem which ends with the unforgiving accusation “Und das hat mit ihrem Singen die Lorelei getan.” (And that, with her dulcet-voiced power, was done by the Lorelei.) The Lorelei has been the subject of many songs, operas and as an enemy in games. The daughters of the Rhine seem to be Lorelei as well, which seem surprisingly “good” in “Das Rheingold”, which is why Alberich managed to trick them in the first place, I suppose.
Delving further into myths of water nymphs surfaces the unavoidable question, what compels one to create a half-fish half-woman creature who seduces men after which she drowns them / sinks their ships? (Yes, there are positive views of mermaids, but the majority of myths sees them as an ill-omen) Another curious point: What has caused the enormous spread of mermaid-related myths? There are even African and Eastern mermaid myths. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you any more about the origin of these myths – perhaps some women-deprived sailors began seeing things.

Pupipo! Chapter 09

Sorry that I was being so slow on this. Without further ado, chapter 09 of Pupipo.
Purgatory is a scary place in this manga…
Like last time, big thanks to Levsta and Phio-chan for the translation and proofread!

There was an age of stone, in which humans used their first tools to smack each others’ brains in.
There was an age of bronze, in which our first armors repelled the hard hits of bronze swords.
There was an age of Iron, in which we used a metal far superior to bronze in many ways.
And now we have arrived in the age of fluffy, in which the most fluffy being dominates all.

Enjoy!

It might be that Rasenjins writing spirit rubs off on me but I’ve been feeling compelled to write some random info on Kutsuzure release posts lately. Weird stuff. Anyhow last time I got severly reprimanded for my inconsistent and messy writing style – I’ll do my best to deliver a cleaner piece of text this time around. Alright. Rusalka.
I think nearly everyone has heard of Hans Christian Andersen’s “Little Mermaid” (The success of this story today is not completely unrelated to the Disney movie…) and the western view of mermaids has been greatly influenced by this work, which is in stark contrast with the personality of a Rusalka. Yes, I see the Rusalka as the “Slavic mermaid”.
There’s an Opera called “Rusalka” by Antonín Dvořák (Who also happens to be one of my favorite composers – Now this opera is really a great one. Certainly one of the best Czech operas out there. If you don’t want to listen to the whole thing, look for a good version of “Song to the moon” and feel Rusalka’s love reaching out!), which oddly also rejects the negative view that the Slavic mythology has. (From the old (translated) fairy tales that I read, a Rusalka was pretty much an evil incarnate in water, a water demon) I’ve also been pointed to a fantasy novel titled “Rusalka” by C. J. Cherryh, but unfortunately I’ve never read this story so I can’t tell you much about it. Alexander Sergeyevich Dargomyzhsky also composed a “Rusalka” opening, but to be honest, I don’t think it’s really good. I guess I just don’t like Dargomyzhsky. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s (Remember him? As I said last time, he used a lot of fairy tales and mythological creatures in his creations) “May night” also features a Rusalka. This Opera is quite elusive – I know it exists, I’ve read an abstract of the story but the only audio fragment I’ve ever been able to find is an Overture. Still looking for a version of the whole thing – unfortunately this, just like “Snow Maiden”, is one of those works which they never perform over here. CmertB also mentioned to me that there’s an enemy called Rusalka in the game “Betrayal at Krondor”; an old CRPG. Enough about music and Rusalkas; next time I’ll try to write something without mentioning a single musical work.

Enjoy!

Pupipo! Chapter 08

New project. Raindrops used to do this previously (in fact, I was the QC’er for this project there) but unfortunately it seems the group’s retiring / going on hiatus. We got to pick up this one, a lot of thanks to Levsta for the translation and Phio-chan for proofreading it.

I was reminded that Pupipo looks like Aramaki Scaltinof…

Pupipo! is quite a weird manga – not sure how I was dragged into it (probably because I thought Wakaba was cute) but it has a peculiar charm. Give it a try and grab the first seven chapters from Raindrop’s website!

Sekai Seifuku Sekirara Jogakukan Chapter 22

We’re nearing the end… only three chapters left after this.
‘Tis a good chapter – one of the better ones for sure.

Mito Pantsunokuni stole most of the words on page 14 (I swear, the man’s nearly as good as Lupin) but I somehow managed to get it back. Link updated. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. (Maybe I’m starting to get dementia)
Enjoy!
Still looking for more editors by the way. Translators are always welcome as well! We won’t eat you, we only eat good tasting people.

Kutsuzure Sensen Chapter 03v2

Continuing with the work of our beloved Rasenjin Hayami, another volume 1 re-release… with FOUR walls of text err, extra pages. They’re all pretty interesting, I think I liked the Steam locomotive one the most. Slowly but surely we’ll complete it…
Picture below is shamelessly stolen from Rasenjin’s homepage.

Enjoy.

Now, allow me to bore you with some meaningless ranting. I know you’re only here for that link up there – but there’s no need to crush my delusions. (Talking about crushing delusions, I’ve had an Index chapter ready for nearly a week now, but haven’t spotted Tira to release it yet… it should be out soon… I hope)
Ded Moroz sure sounds a lot cooler than Saint Nicholas, right? (Fun fact, Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of my hometown and of Russia) When I first did this chapter, it didn’t quite occur to me that Snegurochka is the same snow maiden appearing in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden opera. Well, of course it’s the same gal, but I didn’t think of the opera back when I first did the chapter. I’m a nut about all sorts of music and The Snow Maiden was one of the first operas I listened to after the ever famous Wagner cycle. What I like most about it is that its strong point lies not in its majestic overtures or anything like that – no, the strongest part of The Snow Maiden are the vocal songs. It might not be completely wrong to say it’s almost more like one of the first musicals instead of an opera. (Quite odd, since I really dislike musicals) Korsakov was known to be very fond of folk-tales (they show up in… nearly all his works, in some way) and no opera could fit him better than The Snow Maiden. It’s not surprising that it’s his favourite work. And while I keep nutting like this, I unfortunately never have been able to see it live – in fact, I’ve never seen it performed around my area. It’s not considered one of his best works, which is a shame. Oh well, still hoping I’ll ever got to see it here.

Bright World Project Chapter 15

First off I need to make something clear.
As it is now, we will NOT pick this series up. We will likely release only TWO chapters of this series.
We just happened to have raws and cleans for two chapters, that’s mostly why.
A lot of thanks go to Sohma Riku for translating this!
